Osteopathic Medicine

Osteopathic medicine is a complete medical discipline emphasizing the interrelationship of all body systems to each other and to the environment. I am licensed to practice all phases of medicine and surgery in all 50 states. As an osteopathic physician(D.O.), [What is a D.O.?], we look at the whole person, not just where it hurts. We understand and recognize the tremendous and powerful, inherent capacity of the body to heal and to maintain itself in a state of wellness.

In addition to utilizing "conventional" medical and surgical procedures, we are distinguished by an extremely special ability: the diagnosis by manual methods of malfunctions in the physical state of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system, and, when indicated, correction by osteopathic manipulation. [What is OMT?] This includes high-velocity, low amplitude (so-called "adjustments"), myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization, cranio-sacral, and counter-strain techniques.

Pain is an abstract concept until you feel it, until it happens to you. Then, suddenly, it is no longer an abstraction, rather, pain determines your life, and you just want it go away as quickly and completely as possible. And, you want it never to return.

My job is the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the relief of the pain and disability accompanying those conditions. Low back and neck pain (no matter what the source), knee, pelvis, hip, feet, ankle, wrist pain is my forte. I help develop individualized programs for rehabilitation and prevention of disability resulting from injuries at all of these sites with referral to outside highly skilled physical and or occupational therapists.

If needed I often make referrals to physical therapists with extensive training and experience in orthopedic, sports and dance medicine; exercise therapists, certified movement analysts and licensed medical massage therapists. Acupuncture and trigger point injections maybe included in your program, where indicated. I also refer out to qualified podiatrists to assess faulty foot mechanics, often the source of other musculoskeletal injuries: feet, ankles, knees and low back. MRI, Postural X-rays and other testing provides added information in the correct diagnosis of your pain problems.

Dr. Z,

"After trying to get better with first with mainstream MD's, then a dozen other approaches, I was finally referred by a friend to Dr. Zeiger. My improvement has been dramatic, and I sometimes feel like decades have been removed from my age. Dr. Zeiger really cares. He actually knows my name and my specific health needs and concerns. This is what healthcare SHOULD be."
